Project log 1:
The Seventh Season is something I’ve been working on for a little while now, and I’m currently partway through draft two. However, I’m taking a small break from actively writing it. This is because I got overexcited and jumped into draft two without properly outlining a new plot and just hoping to fix the issues on the fly. Some advice for any of your own projects: this is a bad idea, so don’t do it! So, currently I’m reworking my plan and doing some worldbuilding that I’d left unfinished in my first draft. The big things I’m trying to fix are:
- Inconsistencies in characterisation. This isn’t a great thing to have when there are only two(ish) characters. I’m working on some character profiles that I might end up putting either on here or on my instagram, @scrapsofworlds
- The magic system. This is something I’d left completely vague in the first draft because I wasn’t sure what I wanted it to do thematically. But I can’t exactly do that forever, so I’ve got some brainstorming to get done. I think I have a better idea of what the magic will be and do by reading over the first draft, but it definitely still needs refining and pinning down
- The ending. By the time I got to the end of the first draft I knew there would be some pretty big structural changes, so the ending was more or less a placeholder. As such, it’ll be completely changed in subsequent drafts.
